About this event
This 90-minute guided walk through Durham's West End neighborhood covers about one square mile across six stops, tracing Pauli Murray's childhood, the Fitzgerald family's brickmaking legacy, and Black Durham's civil rights history. It is led by the Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice, put on by the team that preserved this history and offered only twice a year, which makes this outing one of just two chances annually to take it. The tour stays outdoors, with no interior access to Murray's childhood home, and advance registration is required. It suits history buffs, civil-rights pilgrims, and Durham newcomers looking to understand the West End on foot, guided by those closest to its story.
