About this event

Pianist Awadagin Pratt brings a Black-forward America 250 program to Baldwin Auditorium, built around Florence Price's Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho, George Walker's Theme and Variations, Nathaniel Dett's Bible Vignettes, and Julius Eastman's Touch Him When, closing with Pratt's own arrangement of Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child. Presented by Duke Arts, the recital is a rare Sunday-afternoon program anchored entirely in Black American composers, offered by a Naumburg-winning pianist who rarely tours the South. It suits Black classical fans, church-music heads, and HBCU music alumni looking for repertoire built around spirituals and concert works rather than the standard canon. Doors open roughly 30 minutes early, and student tickets are a flat $10 and tend to go fast.
